Harley-Davidson Trikes Explained: The 2026 Lineup and Prices

Published on Sep 9, 2026 by Steven Sabatier

For 2026, Harley-Davidson builds two trikes: the Road Glide 3 and the Street Glide 3 Limited, plus a CVO version of the Street Glide 3. Both ride on an all-new trike chassis with a completely redesigned rear suspension. The Freewheeler and the Tri Glide Ultra are no longer in the lineup. If you have been shopping trikes for a while, that is a bigger change than it sounds, because the 2026 bikes are not a refresh. They are the first ground-up rework of the platform in close to twenty years.

Here is what changed, what the two models cost, and what to do if the trike you actually wanted was a Freewheeler.

The 2026 Harley trike lineup

ModelStarting MSRPEngineStorage
Road Glide 3$35,399Milwaukee-Eight VVT 1172.0 cu ft
Street Glide 3 Limited$39,199Milwaukee-Eight VVT 1177.1 cu ft
CVO Street Glide 3 Limited$54,999Milwaukee-Eight VVT 1216.8 cu ft

Freight is $1,395 on all three, which is worth flagging because it is $500 more than the $895 freight on a two-wheel tourer. Prices above are the base color and are before options.

What changed on the 2026 trikes

Four things, and the first one is the reason the rest exist.

An all-new rear suspension. Harley replaced the live axle with a de Dion design. Rear wheel travel goes from 2.3 inches to 5.0 inches, a 117 percent increase, and unsprung weight drops by roughly 68 pounds. In plain terms: the old trikes transmitted a lot of road into the seat, and this is the fix. If you have ridden a pre-2026 trike over the expansion joints on I-10 and thought the ride was harsh, that is the exact complaint this addresses.

A new engine. Both non-CVO trikes get the Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117, making 105 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 129 lb-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm. That is about 13 percent more horsepower and 7.5 percent more torque than the Milwaukee-Eight 114 in the 2025 trikes. The CVO steps up to the VVT 121 at 114 horsepower and 138 lb-ft.

Reverse works differently now. Older trikes carried a separate electric reverse motor. The 2026 bikes run reverse off the engine's starter motor instead, which saves weight and hardware. Two practical notes: the engine has to be running, and reverse is limited to 20-second intervals to protect the motor. That is plenty to back out of a parking spot, and it is a change worth knowing about before your first ride.

The current touring tech comes along. A 12.3-inch color touchscreen running Skyline OS, wireless Apple CarPlay, Rockford Fosgate audio, selectable ride modes for Road, Sport, Rain and Custom, cornering ABS and linked brakes, and tire pressure monitoring, which is new on the trikes.

Road Glide 3 vs. Street Glide 3 Limited

This is the decision most trike buyers are actually making in 2026, and it comes down to the same fairing question as the two-wheel bikes, plus a real difference in how much you can carry.

Road Glide 3Street Glide 3 Limited
FairingSharknose, frame-mountedBatwing, fork-mounted
Starting MSRP$35,399$39,199
Storage2.0 cu ft7.1 cu ft combined
Heated seatingAvailableDual-zone
Touring equipmentNot standardHighway pegs, heated grips, lower fairings, auxiliary lamps
Best forDay rides and weekends, lower entry priceMulti-day trips, two-up touring, all the gear

The storage gap is the honest deciding factor. Seven cubic feet versus two is not a specification difference, it is a different kind of trip. If you and a passenger are packing for four days, the Street Glide 3 Limited is the bike. If your riding is Saturday mornings and the occasional overnight, the Road Glide 3 saves you $3,800 and gives up storage you were not going to fill.

The Street Glide 3 Limited also shows up with more of the long-trip equipment already fitted. Highway pegs, heated grips, lower fairings and auxiliary lamps are all standard on it, and those are four things riders tend to add to a touring bike anyway. Before you decide the $3,800 gap settles the question, price a Road Glide 3 with that same list of accessories on it. The real difference is usually smaller than the sticker suggests.

The fairing difference is the same one that separates the two-wheel Road Glide and Street Glide. The frame-mounted sharknose keeps fairing weight off the handlebars, and it leaves more room between the rider and the dash, which taller riders tend to prefer. Our guide to Road Glide vs. Street Glide covers that in more detail, and it applies here too.

What does a Harley trike cost?

Base MSRP is the start of the conversation, not the end of it. Here is how a real number comes together on each bike.

Road Glide 3

OptionCost
Base color$35,399
Vivid Black+ $700
Premium color+ $1,050
Premium Plus color+ $1,350
Black finish option+ $1,400
SecurityStandard
Cruise controlStandard
Freight+ $1,395

Street Glide 3 Limited

OptionCost
Base color$39,199
Vivid Black+ $800
Premium Plus color+ $1,450
Two-tone+ $2,250
Special edition custom solid+ $4,000
Black finish option+ $1,400
SecurityStandard
Cruise controlStandard
Freight+ $1,395

Security and cruise control are standard on both, which is worth noting because they are cost options on plenty of competing machines. A Road Glide 3 in a premium color with the black finish package lands around $39,200 before tax and title, which puts it right at the Street Glide 3 Limited's starting price. Worth doing that math before you decide.

What happened to the Freewheeler?

Harley discontinued the Freewheeler for 2026. It had been in the lineup since 2015 as the stripped-down, shorter, cruiser-style trike, and it was the answer for riders who wanted three wheels without a full touring rig. There is no direct replacement in the current lineup.

If the Freewheeler was the trike you wanted, you have two real options.

Buy a used one. They were built for eleven model years, so there is a genuine supply, and they hold up well. This is the straightforward path if the short wheelbase and the bare look were the appeal. Our pre-owned inventory changes constantly, so check what is on the floor now and check back often. It is also worth getting with a salesperson while you are here: we can tag you to the specific model you are after in our system and reach out when one comes in.

Look at the Road Glide 3. It is the closer of the two new trikes on price and it is the less dressed of the pair, though it is still a full touring machine. It is not a Freewheeler and we will not pretend it is, but riders cross-shopping the two often land here.

One thing worth saying plainly: a discontinued model is not a worse motorcycle than it was last year. The Freewheeler that was right for you in 2025 is the same bike in 2026. What changes is that parts and service continue while new production does not, and our Service department works on them either way.

What about the Tri Glide Ultra?

The Tri Glide Ultra is also out of the 2026 lineup. It was the full-dress touring trike, and the Street Glide 3 Limited is effectively what replaces it, with more storage, the new chassis, and dual-zone heated seating.

Used Tri Glides are plentiful and are still a lot of motorcycle. If you want the most touring capability per dollar and you do not need the 2026 suspension, a clean used Tri Glide Ultra is a strong buy right now, precisely because the new model is drawing attention away from it.

Why do people buy Harley trikes?

Three reasons come up over and over on our floor in Scott.

You never have to hold it up. No balancing at a stoplight, no worrying about a gravel shoulder or a slick spot, no dropping it in a parking lot. For riders who have had a hip replaced, a knee rebuilt, or a shoulder that is not what it was, this is the difference between still riding and not riding.

Confidence in bad conditions. A three-wheeler does not need to be caught if the rear steps out on a wet road. Anyone who has hit a slick patch on a Louisiana road after a summer downpour knows why that appeals.

It keeps riders riding. This is the honest one. A lot of trike buyers are longtime motorcyclists who were about to hang it up. A trike gives them another decade. We see it constantly.

There is also a rider group that has never ridden two wheels at all and starts on a trike. That is completely legitimate, with one important caveat covered below.

Do Harley trikes ride differently from motorcycles?

Yes, and this is the part nobody should skip.

A trike does not lean. You do not countersteer it. You steer it like a car, by turning the bars in the direction you want to go. For an experienced two-wheel rider, that is genuinely disorienting for the first fifteen minutes, because everything your body has learned about cornering is now wrong.

Other differences worth knowing:

  • You take up a full lane. The rear track is wide. You have to reposition how you think about lane placement, especially in a construction zone.
  • Cornering loads you sideways. Instead of leaning into a turn, you get pushed to the outside, so you brace and hold on differently than you would on two wheels. The 2026 rear suspension does help here. The added flex in the back end lessens that thrown-across-the-seat feeling, though it does not remove it. It is still a trike and you will still feel the load.
  • Reverse changes everything about parking. Being able to back out of a sloped spot without walking the bike is a bigger quality-of-life feature than it sounds. On the 2026 bikes the engine needs to be running and reverse runs in 20-second intervals.
  • Rear tires are car-like and wear differently than motorcycle tires. Budget for that. Our Service department can tell you what to expect.

Is there a three-wheel riding course?

Our Riding Academy is a two-wheel course. We do not run a separate three-wheel class. That said, the skills carry over directly. Throttle and brake control, hazard scanning, slow-speed control, and emergency stopping are the same disciplines on three wheels as on two, and riders who come through the course handle a trike better for having done it.

The Harley-Davidson Riding Academy at Cajun Harley-Davidson runs every weekend, excluding certain holiday weekends. It costs $295 and includes two nights of classroom work with a preliminary practice exam, plus two days of course riding, and you finish with a certificate for the skills test.

If you are moving to three wheels from two, the more valuable thing is seat time. Come take one out and give yourself a few miles to recalibrate before you decide anything.

Harley trike vs. Can-Am Spyder

The main structural difference is wheel layout. A Harley trike has one wheel in front and two in back. A Can-Am Spyder has two in front and one in back, which changes the handling character significantly and makes it feel more like a powersport vehicle than a motorcycle.

The difference that costs real money is resale. Watching auction results and value trends, Can-Am Spyders drop significantly on the pre-owned market and often retail close to wholesale numbers. Harley trikes hold value considerably better. If there is any chance you will sell or trade within a few years, that gap is worth more than most of the feature comparisons people spend their time on.

Beyond that, the choice comes down to what you want the machine to be. A Harley trike is a Harley: V-twin sound and feel, H-D fit and finish, the same dealer and parts network, and the same accessory catalog. A Spyder is its own thing with its own following. Neither is wrong. If the Harley experience is what you are after, a trike keeps you in it.

Can you convert a Harley to a trike?

Aftermarket trike conversion kits exist for touring models, and plenty of riders have gone that route. Two things to weigh honestly:

  • Cost. A quality conversion plus installation is a serious expense, and it often lands close to the price difference between your bike's trade value and a factory trike.
  • Warranty and support. A factory trike is engineered, warranted, and serviced as a trike. A conversion is not, and it can complicate warranty coverage and future service.

A conversion also will not get you the 2026 chassis, which is the whole story this year. Our usual advice is to get a real trade number on your current bike first and compare. You may be closer to a factory trike than you think. Start a trade valuation here.

Frequently asked questions

What Harley trikes are available for 2026?

Three: the Road Glide 3, the Street Glide 3 Limited, and the CVO Street Glide 3 Limited. All three ride on the all-new 2026 trike chassis with the de Dion rear suspension. The Freewheeler and the Tri Glide Ultra were discontinued after 2025, so used is the only way into either one now.

Is the Harley Freewheeler discontinued?

Yes. The Freewheeler is not part of the 2026 lineup. It was produced from 2015 through 2025, so used examples turn up regularly. Our pre-owned inventory changes constantly, so check it often, and a salesperson can note the exact model you want and call you when one comes in. Parts and service continue as normal.

How much does a Harley-Davidson trike cost?

The Road Glide 3 starts at $35,399, the Street Glide 3 Limited at $39,199, and the CVO Street Glide 3 Limited at $54,999. Add $1,395 freight to any of them, then color and finish options, then tax and title. A realistic out-the-door number on a mid-spec trike runs several thousand above the starting price. Used Freewheelers and Tri Glides come in well below all of it. See current inventory for what is on the floor.

Do Harley trikes have reverse?

Yes. On 2026 models reverse is powered by the engine's starter motor rather than a separate electric motor, so the engine must be running, and it operates in 20-second intervals. It is one of the most appreciated features once you have used it a few times, particularly backing out of a sloped driveway.

Are Harley trikes good for beginners?

They can be, with training. You never have to balance, which removes the single most intimidating part of learning. But trikes are heavy, wide, and steer differently from both motorcycles and cars, so easier is not the same as no learning curve. Our Riding Academy is a two-wheel course, but the skills transfer, and it is still the best preparation available.

Can two people ride a Harley trike?

Yes, both models accommodate a passenger. The Street Glide 3 Limited is considerably better set up for it, with dual-zone heated seating and 7.1 cubic feet of storage against the Road Glide 3's 2.0.
